Good Lord. Please tell me you're kidding. I do not want the image of the sport of paintball associated with some pubescent doofus grunting "i play paintball and i like to mow faces." Did he say, "dude"?

Great. Perfect.

Why not "Paintball is the safest sport played", or "Bring a friend to play paintball." Hell, even "Support your local paintball store."

No...what do we get? Dumbass-a-saurus who likes to "mow faces".

My God, that is embarassing. At least it didn't have a bong hit sound effect or something.

On the other hand, Joe Maumee is a great guy, and the folks at KRXQ are friendly towards the sport. I guess it's sort of positive that 'something' is being broadcast about paintball.

If I could understand your pidgeon-English, I might be able to come up with a pithy and clever response.

Not to start the whole 'religious' thing again, but do you have a personal problem with Christians playing paintball? Isn't that a bit intolerant? One can only wonder...how do you feel about Muslims playing...or Jews...or Blacks...or homosexuals...or maybe even handicapped folks? Do you show the same openmindedness?

Look at the bigger picture, kid. A dimbulb declaring to the world that he 'mows faces' does about as much good for paintball as smearing excrement on toast makes people want to eat breakfast.

For God's sake...THINK.

there are a couple types of these commercials on 98.5, such as "hi my name is ..... and i build race cars", "hey my name is .... and i play video games", and of course "hey my name is .... and i like to play paintball, i mow faces off". but after those "entrances" they include short phrases about what they actually do. so its not entirely bad, i think if anything it sounds cool to the people that are listening to it (i.e. a lot of teens and people in their early 20's) which could possibly encourage them to want to "mow faces" in paintball. but whatever, i thought it was cool, i think the common listener would think its cool too and would want to check it out.

m-rex i believe when he said christian parents he was referring to the "moral majority" uptight conservatives that most likely dont listen to 98 rock. it's being portrayed to that demographic as an extreme sport such as skateboarding or bmx, thus the teenage slang. i would assume that you dont listen to that station, and wouldnt know that most of the commercials are aimed at "dumbass-a-saurus's". maybe you havent noticed but paintball is being marketed to the prepubescent doofus's, as, surely you would call most of the users on sacpaintball.

but even if i'm wrong on everything above, dont worry, it's not that bad, there's been much worse, and it's not really worth complaining about haveing a little bit of air space on one of sac's mor popular radio stations

You assume incorrectly. I listen to 98 Rock regularly. Believe what you want. That isn't what the kid posted.

Why bother with prepubes who have little or no income? The majority of discretionary consumer spending is in the 25-40 age group. They are the people who need to be sought because they are the group with the most money.

That commercial made the sport look stupid. Oh, and skateboarding and bmx aren't 'sports'. They're activities.

Activity, activity, activity, and activity.

I would qualify paintball as a sport, especially in its X-Ball format, as a sport because there is a 'ball', a specific time period of play, and the awarding of points. テつ*Connected to this are specific skill sets, penalties and referees.

None of the other ones count. テつ*Soccer is a sport...barely, as well as Beach Vollyball, but I wouldn't get caught dead playing either one.

Examples:

Football - Sport
Basketball - Sport
Baseball - Sport (sort of)
X-Ball - Sport
Soccer - barely a Sport

Golf - not Sport
Shuffleboard - not Sport
Curling - not Sport

ummm...m rex, srry but there doesnt need to be a ball to be a sport. and bmx and skateboarding is a sport no matter how much u dont want it to be. in skateboarding and bmx u have trials that are timed to about 1 minute. u do the best tricks that u can and u get a score. then who ever has the best score wins. so that would be a sport i would say and i think that everyone else would say that too. so m rex, y dont u stop tryin to sound all cool because u have more income then us or w/e u wanna say, so stop bickering and just shut up.

M.

hm, well theyre outlook on sports is pretty much the most narrowminded opinion ive ever heard and i strongly disagree with it. how is soccer barely a sport? and by your previous defenition of a sport having a ball, and a scoring system, wouldnt golf be a sport? i dunno this is getting rediculous, all the "sports" you listed can also be activities, sooo why cant the so called "activities" be sports? since they have the same idea as the "sports" you've listed, just a difference in the physical aspect of it. ok im done ;)

Defined...
sport [ spawrt ]

noun (plural sports)

1. competitive physical activity: an individual or group competitive activity involving physical exertion or skill, governed by rules, and sometimes engaged in professionally ( often used in the plural )

M-Rex

I stand duly corrected on one specific point. Hockey is definitely a sport. In fact, it and American Football are most likely the two most perfect sports in the world.

With all due and proper respect to fantastically talented guys like Tony Hawk, skateboarding and bmx are NOT sports. They are activities. Furthermore, no one out of high school really cares about them anyway.

If there were more than one 'boarder or bmx-er riding in an enclosed area, and each one had a broomstick, and the object of the game was to knock each other off their respective board or bike, and then perform some specific action with a ball (or puck) to gain points...then it might start drifting into the 'sport' catagory.

Now please...uncork your rectums and relax a bit. Have a bit of a sense of humor and realize this is all tongue-in-cheek, anyway. :o

Look guys it doesn't matter what it's called, no matter what what the activity/sport is labeled as IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE OBJECTIVE/SPIRIT OF THE GAME!

Some people think a timmy is just a spyder on steriods, others don't, but no matter what people "think" or "label" it is doesn't change the way it performs.

It's nothing to get riled up about.

ok snow boarding and wakeboarding are both sports by your terms... they both have referes in the form of a judge, they both compete for points.

curling and golf... they both compete for points and they both have referes. so the are technically sports.

i honestly dont know how you say baseball is not a sport. If you take baseball to nd exact science it is technically he hardest sport. YOUR HAVE TO HIT A SPHERICAL OBJECET WITH A CYLINDER SHAPED OBJECT. scientificaly it should be impossible.... ontop of the you got to his the damn thing doing 90+, and you have like .1 seconds to react.

what i see is an act of complete ignorance on your part and your unability to wakeboard, snowboard, play baseball, golf and curl.

wakeboard=you pry couldnt even get up on one
snowboard=guarenty you would fall over
baseball=.....no agility and gracefulness
golf= shank gurentee
curl=you couldnt squat down

A small spot on 98 Rock talking about paintball = good for the sport. It focuses attention and gives a thumbnail sketch of the tournament community.

A small spot on 98 Rock talking about 'mowing faces' = ridiculously stupid. Maybe 2% of the folks who heard it knew what it was...if they even remained on station. It was a wasted effort and made the sport look stupid.

I can't put it any simpler than that.

No, no, no....now listen for a minute. テつ*I'm serious. テつ*I'm not trying to be insulting. テつ*Just listen. テつ*You are a little more accurate than you realize.

All of us want to put the best face on paintball. テつ*Everyone does...from the rec-player, to the scenario player, to the tourny player, and beyond. テつ*'Mowing Faces', however inoccuous it may sound to an experienced tournament player, sounds unneccesarily violent to the paintball ignorant. テつ*The same goes for sayings like, "I Kill Suckers."

I have seen with my own eyes parents, who were standing in line with their kids, turn around and walk off the field, taking their kids with them, muttering, "you're not playing that violent game" after hearing a group of adolescent players...hopped up on the energy of the game...say things like, "I mowed his face off", and "I bunkered his ass so bad he was cryin'."

Snap. テつ*Crackle. テつ*Pop. テつ*One potential player gone. Furthermore, that parent talks to other parents, and so on, and so on, and so on...you get the picture.

Out on the field of battle? テつ*Absolutely! テつ*No quarter. テつ*Throw paint and sort it out afterwards....but...in the media arena, the best face needs to be shown. テつ*The non-playing public needs to be cultivated, not the players already in the game.

"Mowing Faces" does not say, "Come play paintball. テつ*It's safe", it says, "I'm going to hurt your child."

Now don't post up some inane 15-year-old drivel. テつ*Think about what I'm saying for a minute.

LOL good thing the transition from rec to tourney play is very evident. any adult with an IQ higher above 80 can tell that there are different styles in play and that yes one is Waaaaaaaaay more aggressive.
filled with: face paced bunker moves, a lot of hits per G,
a few language slips here and there.
the other is full of pre teens and people just getting into the sport. going out and having a fun day of paintball.

when my dad let me skate board for the first time he didnt think to himself "whoa, they are riding down 12 foot tall half pipes ...I don?t want my kid in that he will break every bone in his body.
that sport is way to dangerous" .

This is the part you should pay particular attention to. テつ*It may help.

So the question is...

What is it going to take from all of us to get M-Rex to leave SacPaintball for good? I'll start a fund if necessary.

ya know Iテ「竄ャ邃「ve watched this thread for a cpl reasons.....
One is the "perception" of people and how the sport is interpreted
Two cus its funny to see the "younger" crowd get all bent over a person like mike, which posts his views on where the sport is going.
I see a very definitive line between what is said and whose panties (sorry ladies) get in a ruffle because you may or may not see the same views.

M-rex has been around longer than most members of this site and has more positive views in one day than most in their life. He plays the game hard and with intensity most of us may never know. He emulates honor and sportsmanship on the field and always will help the underdog. You seem to take his opinion for fact and I really see it as he is laughing because he enjoys tempermenting the young folks around here. If you ever have had the opportunity to play or talk with mike you would see the passion he has for this テ「竄ャナ堵ameテ「竄ャツ we call a sport, if you havenテ「竄ャ邃「t you should try some time you might be impressed.

This game came from nothing to an entity that is larger than most of us will ever have the ability to experience. The sport and we evolved from a bunch of cattle farmers making sure their herds didnテ「竄ャ邃「t get into others pens. Does that make sense? Evolution and momentum move everything. As far as

So the question is...

What is it going to take from all of us to get M-Rex to leave SacPaintball for good? I'll start a fund if necessary.
Do you really think you are offering any positiveness to the sport? No offence Vince, I donテ「竄ャ邃「t know you personally and youテ「竄ャ邃「ve been around longer than I but does that mean you forget where you can from and blame for not seeing your views your way? Knowing your rep I doubt itテ「竄ャツヲ

Just my lil contribution to the thread

wow! to have parents actually think that there are kids out there getting there faces blown off is terrible, OH WHAT, that is what happens in piantball, there are two kinds of play, tournement and woods, aka boring ball. have all the little tikes play out in the woods with the guys in camo. where they can shoot at each other from 900 yards away. maybe it will roll up and break on his shoe. the simple fact is that this is paintball, if they do not like it they can go play soccer.

"Mowing Faces" does not say, "Come play paintball. テつ*It's safe", it says, "I'm going to hurt your child."

eh i'm confused i thought we werent gonna bother with the prepubes and presumeably their parents and focus on the 25-40 demographic?

Why bother with prepubes who have little or no income? The majority of discretionary consumer spending is in the 25-40 age group. They are the people who need to be sought because they are the group with the most money.
