Teams from all over the West Coast came to compete in the RPL season opener. One of the really fun parts of the tournament from the player’s perspective was the reffing. While not all the calls were agreed upon, as normal, the refs themselves proved to be a highlight for many. Rich Telford of XSV was the Ultimate Referee for the event and on the field, professional ballers from XSV includingThomas Taylor and Junior Brown ,as well as Ironmen’s Scott Kemp, provided the calls.
“It was really cool have XSV reffing us,” said Sawyer Smith. Smith’s team, Max’d Kidz, won the 5-man AAA Division. “I got to have Thomas and Junior ref a tournament I won. That rocks.”
It rained and rained and rained prior to the event, but on Saturday the skies were clear for the early morning captain’s meeting. However, the mud was everywhere and it was thick. The player’s area was covered and in pretty good condition. The turf and the bunkers were in excellent condition. So all in all a little mud wasn’t about to stop a successful tournament.
When the dust had settled, or rather when the mud had hardened, the awards ceremony kicked off. Some free swag was thrown out to the crowd throughout the ceremony including BallersCafe T’s, DVDs, jerseys and JT backpacks. The Division winners are listed below:
