"There was no argument I was just point out the facts of the matter. Both of you chose to ignore them however. "

Neither of us are ignoring them it was off topic and not what this was supposed to be about please don't attack either of us. Thanks

Also just so you know paintball is one of the least dangerous sports. I did my entire senior project on it. There are more reported injuries from bowling then paintball. All though the incidents with the compressed air tanks make some argue otherwise, even with these being very rare incidents.

Yes to someone who is ill informed of the sport it may look bad. With a little research they can find out the difference between riot control gear and what the actual sport of paintball is about. I feel most people don't get informed and it is a negative image for the sport. Although i doubt many people noticed this as the main argument of that conflict was about the pepper spray canisters since thats what were actually used. Luckily for our sport the guns were not used otherwise i'm sure we would all be getting questions and having to deal with something that has nothing to do with the sport, except that they use low end paintball markers to deliver what they consider riot control methods.

Also the tear gas comment is i feel is usually used in larger crowds. There were a lot of just onlookers in the davis incident. I think it is much easier to be accurate with a paintball gun or bean bag launcher except you only get a much more limited amount of bean bags. Not sure what cops vs riot gear keep on them. If someone knows this it may show insight of why certain ones are used in different cases.

it makes sense not to use tear gas in this situation i was just pointing out that it was in their arsenal of riot control gear and with the amount of spectators and non-violent protestors it would make sense to have an accurate single shot rather than something with "splash damage" if you will.

and i know its one of the least dangerous sports lol i worked at a paintball field for almost 5 years and we never had an injury that was paintball specific. from what i can remember we had a broken leg, a broken ankle, a couple torn ACL's, someone gashed their knee open and a hurt back. all of which would happen in any sport.

but anyways, we watched a video from the "riot" in my communications class(everyone in the class knows i play paintball) and i saw the paintball guns and was surprised that not a single person asked or said anything, though just about every single person was focused on the cans of spray as you stated in your post.

LOL we both know it wasn't a riot. But yeah i worked at a field and remember a number of rolled ankles and minor cuts but i guess that's gunna happen when you have people running down hills with rocks/obstacles everywhere. I still wonder who has what gear? as in the police or swat or ???? or do police just bring "riot" gear to scenes?

Look, Las1K, how do you ever expect anyone to have an intelligent dialogue with you when you try to hijack a thread...use two liberal/anti-police sites as your citations...and then dis other posters as "choosing to ignore" your facts.

Sherman was looking for some feedback from LEO's as to the use of paintball guns in crowd situations.

If you wish to have a thread on the police treatment of the Davis Occupy people...start a new thread.

I also stopped (and so did everyone else) just shy of a month ago with this thread. Just going to touch on one of your points here about looking for feedback from LEO's; I did my time working around the police force - I did a year long internship in the Sacramento County Crime Lab. My roommates father is the former police Chief of Winters California (Now retired). We called his dad and discussed this and I got his input on what was probably loaded into the paintball markers, and that's what lead me to the pepperballs that I linked previously, as well as where to find the rules about what force can be used in situations like these (which I also linked to previously).

THEY were told if they put tents up they will be arrestedso the dam hippies did it any way so the cops went in there cars and drove onthe quad to take the tents down and the arrested the people who put the tentsup. so the other dam hippies that saw the tents being token down went and madea human chain to block the path the cops took to get in the quad so that they couldn’tget out the way they came in the cops told them to move a lot of times andwarned them that they will be sprayed but they didn’t listen so they got whatthey had coming how else were the cops to get out.

dude LEARN how to read a date of the last post, the last post on this topic was december 21st 2011. thats a solid 3 months of dead thread here.

dude LEARN how to stay on topic of what was being talked about, I was not disputing anything that happened that day, I was simply inquiring about the use of paintball guns as "riot control gear."
